What’s the difference between CBD and Delta-8 THC?

CBD and Delta-8 THC are cannabinoids, or compounds produced by the cannabis plant. Because they come from the cannabis plant, we refer to CBD and Delta-8 as cannabis frequently throughout this site. Occasionally we will also refer to our CBD and Delta-8 products as hemp, because of their legal classification in the United States.

Both CBD and Delta-8 are widely available in most states. What’s the difference between these two, you might ask? Both are derived from the hemp plant. The key difference, among many, is that Delta-8 THC has psychoactive properties, while CBD is generally considered non-intoxicating. Both are associated with stress–reducing and anti-inflammatory properties, but Delta-8 THC may be ideal if you want to experience a light buzz or a sense of euphoria, while CBD may be more appropriate if you want to experience calming properties but not feel “high.”

Gummies, tinctures, topicals? Which method of CBD or Delta-8 consumption is right for you?

So, you want to begin your own journey of diving into the world of hemp- derived products. Where do you start!? There are several ways to enjoy cannabinoids like CBD and Delta-8 THC, such as vaporizers and smokable products, topical solutions, tinctures, and edibles, such as gummies.

Smoking and vaping: Let’s be blunt

Smoking is the classic (and the most popular) way to consume traditional cannabis products, while vaping has been growing in popularity in recent years.  Smoking and vaping produce an almost immediate effect because inhalation pushes the cannabinoids straight into the bloodstream through the lungs. When smoking or vaping, it is easier to know how much you consumed and when you are ready to stop. Smoking a pre-roll can also be the perfect way to unwind after a long day.

As compared to smoking, vaping has its own benefits. For instance, that strong smell that smoking cannabis produces is greatly reduced when using a vaporizer, and they are also convenient to use and don’t require matches or a lighter.  Even so, users should note that smoking and vaping can cause irritation and possible damage to the your lungs, especially if known lung conditions exist.

One thing to note when smoking Delta-8 THC products is that Delta-8 THC does not usually occur naturally in high concentrations within the hemp plant. Most Delta-8 THC flower and pre-rolls are actually dried hemp that has been sprayed with a Delta-8 THC distillate.

For localized relief, try a topical!

If you looking for a specific way to target localized pain or discomfort and want to use a non-ingestible product that feels natural and safe, try a topical solution of CBD or Delta-8 THC.

When applied topically, cannabinoids generally aren’t able to absorb into the bloodstream because the molecules are too large to pass through the skin. Instead, the cannabinoids absorb into the skin and interact with the nearby receptors of the endocannabinoid system.

Topical solutions work quickly, and many topicals have added ingredients for relief, like menthol. Topicals are also known to be good for the skin because of their moisturizing properties. Topicals are easy to apply, and don’t produce any psychoactive effects!

Stay “high-drated” with a tincture

Cannabis tincture dropper

Tinctures are highly-concentrated herbal extracts that are placed under the tongue and are one of the oldest forms of medicine used. Tinctures only take about 15 minutes to kick in since they are absorbed through the oral mucosal tissue.

The benefits of a tincture include being dispensed by dropper so dosage can be easily personalized, tinctures are also generally higher dosage per serving, so they are great for users seeking additional relief.

Adding a tincture to your favorite beverage is a great and refreshing way to enjoy the effects of CBD or Delta-8 THC without disrupting your normal routine. Tinctures can also be applied direct to the tongue, or onto the skin to be used as a topical.

Edibles & gummies: Easy and delicious!

Edibles refer broadly to any product that can be consumed, and they are one of the most popular forms of cannabis consumption. Among edibles, gummies are by far the most common way to consume. They are a great option for many consumers people as they offer the ability to easily self-dose, are discrete (for those who want discretion), and they are highly portable. You can take your gummies anywhere you want to and eat one whenever you feel like it without worrying about taking your business outside, and gummies won’t spill in your bag.

Gummies are also the easiest way to know how much you’re taking since each gummy has a specified quantity of CBD and Delta-8 THC. It’s also easy to self-dose with gummies by splitting one in half or taking two if you want that extra kick!

The cannabinoids in a gummy are absorbed into the bloodstream through the stomach, so they make take longer to kick in (anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for most users). However, this absorption method produces much longer-lasting and more predictable effects.
