Spanish can be hard, y’all! Irregular verbs, nouns with gender, accent marks? And on top of it all, there are more than 20 Spanish speaking countries and each one has its own slang. If you’ve ever tried to use a word you learned in Spanish class with any of your Spanish speaking friends, you know that direct translations sometimes don’t cut it.
This makes knowing how to say weed slang in Spanish quite difficult. Fortunately for you, you now have this helpful guide that will help you sound like a pro at the next smoke sesh with your Spanish speaking friends.
Since each Spanish speaking country uses its own slang, this guide focuses on the kind of Spanish that I know best: Nicaraguan Spanish. To make sure my translations were on point, I called up my favorite Nica stoners (my cousin & my uncle) for help in creating this guide. There are about twenty years between the two of them, so as you can imagine they each use different words to describe their experience with cannabis. Just like how we don’t use “grass,” “reefer,” or “doobie” very much anymore, the same is true in Spanish!
Some of the words below, but not all, are the same in the regional Spanish of other countries. For example, when I lived in Colombia, I called the “plug” the “conecte,” like in Nicaraguan Spanish. But when I’m smoking with my Mexican friends, I don’t call it a “churro,” I call it a “porro.”
Anyways – enjoy!
