Three reasons CBD is not working for you

Why CBD is not working for you

If you’ve tried CBD and haven’t seen results, don’t give up yet! Read on to discovery why CBD is not working for you, and how you can change that.

What CBD Is Versus What CBD Is Not

Common Misconceptions

Different hemp productsCannabidiol, also known as CBD, is one of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, Cannabis Sativa L. There are a few common misconceptions related to CBD, such as “no research has been done on it” and “it’s a marketing scam.”

There are some claims that CBD has never been scientifically proven to help with any health conditions. This misconception is, ironically, what is keeping cannabis with over 0.3% Delta 9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) more broadly designated as a Schedule 1 drug at the federal level. This misconception has been proven false as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a CBD-based medication, called Epidiolex, in 2018 to treat seizure disorders.

People also attribute CBD with being a marketing scam or “snake oil”. Although CBD has made its way into a lot of products since 2018, from mascara to coffee and everything in between, that doesn’t mean it’s a scam. Some companies may put it in their products just to make them more appealing and upsell consumers with an on-trend ingredient, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that evolving research has shown that CBD does have the ability to improve symptoms for a variety of conditions, from relieving arthritic inflammation to improving symptoms of anxiety.

Why CBD Is Not Working for You

There are a few potential reasons why CBD might not appear to be working for you. Here are a few that we find occurring most commonly:

1. Do Expectations Align with Potential Benefits?

It’s important to remember that CBD isn’t a “cure all” product. It affects different people in different ways, so it’s best to start your CBD routine without high expectations or preconceived notions about what you’ll experience. It’s also important to find the right modality for you. Vaping and tinctures go into the bloodstream quicker than gummies since they don’t have to pass through the digestive tract, so those modalities can be good options if you want to experience the effects quickly. If timing isn’t of the essence, a gummy or edible may be a better choice.

2. Finding the Right Dosage

Again, everyone is different, so it may take a while to find the right dosage for you. Don’t lose hope! It may be that you just haven’t found the right dose for your body. Similar to how people handle alcohol differently, you could be a CBD “lightweight” or “heavyweight” consumer, but, likely, you’re something in between. It’s always best to start with a low dose and increase modestly until you’ve found the right dosage for you. See our article for advice on How to Dose CBD

3. Building it Up in Your System

CBD doesn’t always produce instant results. Rather, it can take up to a month or two for people to see real evidence of results. Some find it helpful to build CBD up in their system by taking a little every day, which stimulates your endocannabinoid system. If you are going to try CBD, be sure to give yourself enough time (and product) to regularly dose yourself and monitor how you feel over time. Patience is key when testing out CBD.

Actual Results You May Expect From CBD

Studies have shown CBD has many potential benefits, as discussed in the Harvard Medical School blog and Healthline. Many studies have shown that CBD can reduce feelings of anxiety. One interesting study consisted of 57 men who received either an oral CBD or a placebo an hour and half before they had to take a public speaking test. The results found that, while there was little to no effect in those who took the placebo, the 300 mg dose of CBD was able to reduce anxiety for those who took it during the test. Furthermore, an animal study revealed that CBD can help reduce inflammation related to arthritis when used in a topical form.

CBD, overall, can provide these results without the “high” feeling associated with other cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, which one reason it has become so popular.

Tips to Maximize Your CBD Results

Always set the right expectations. Know that CBD works differently for everyone, and it isn’t a cure-all product.

You also will need to find the right dose for you, which can take weeks or months.

Similarly, if you don’t see instant results, know that it takes time for CBD to build up in your system, so patience is key.
